Guardian Towers

Guardian Towers is a mixed-use complex consisting of an 18-storey residential tower, an 18-storey office tower, and a two-level podium with retail stores. It is located in the Danet district of Abu Dhabi. Completed in 2011, the project was designed by the international architectural firm LAB Architecture Studio together with the construction company ERGA Progress.

The towers were designed to shift in relation to one another, which creates a dynamic architectural style. Double-pane façades and frontal glazing protect the buildings against the extreme heat and high humidity of the region. The residential tower is linear and elongated with balconies, and the office tower is compressed by comparison.

The complex features glazed exteriors and fritted glass to alter and enhance direct sunlight, and its recessed windows and balcony doors are partially protected from direct sunlight. Gradient fritting on the office tower façade allows units to have floor-to-ceiling windows, but only with partial transparency.

Despite the seeming complexity of the towers’ design, its style also features sloping surfaces with a simple and modern composition. The first floor and podium level have retail outlets, and the north side of the office tower has a café.
